In 1965 a group of Labrador Retriever exhibitors decided that they needed a breed club in Northern Ireland.
These founder and early members were:
Mr Paddy Martin, Mr Hutchy Armstrong, Mr Joe Boyd, Mr Jim Haffey, Mr Wm Robert Smyth, Mrs Belle Smyth, Mrs Jean Kirk, Mr John Irvine, Mrs Doris Irvine, Mr Jack Skelly, Mr Jack Kennedy, Mrs Margaret Kennedy, Mrs Pearl Fletcher, Mr Jim Cranson.
Their aims were to:-
- promote the Labrador breed
- give help and guidance to prospective members
- provide Open and Championship shows for the breed
Over the years there have been a number of Chair Persons, Secretaries, Treasurers and from 1968 Field Trial Secretaries as the table shows (with the present post-holders in bold):

Our 1976 Championship Show, held in memory of two of our members, Mr John Presha and Mr David Thompson, who were suddenly
taken from us in 1975, was well supported by local club members and by cross-water exhibitors, including the late Mary Roslyn-Williams who was a regular visitor.
Like most clubs we have had to change with the times, but it is fair to say that we have gone from strength to strength over the years.
We are now fast approaching our 50th anniversary and are looking forward to the next 50 years.
